Both players are more than happy to supply Apple and Microsoft devices (with limits) and other 3rd party devices with music and video. The contention is this: who is going to control the streaming media market for the Android and Fire OS platforms. Android is locked pretty firmly into the Google Play marketplace, but most devices can download or sideload other content providers and app stores (including Amazon Underground) Fire OS’s primary purpose is driving sales to Amazon, and is very tightly controlled by its owners-but one can download and sideload some other content providers and app stores (including Google Play on some devices). While both are forked from the same initial source and behave almost exactly the same way, there is a disparity in the services offered. There is a large divide in the Android world between the Google-controlled Android platform and the Fire OS realm created by Amazon.
